The 1958 Maryland Terrapins football team represented the University of Maryland in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college football in its sixth season as a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. They were led by third-year head coach Tommy Mont, who guided Maryland to a 4–6 record. He resigned at the end of the season, and was replaced by Tom Nugent. ==Before the season== ''The Baltimore Sun'' predicted 1958 would prove to be Mont's first winning season because of increased depth,〔(Depth Helps Terp Hopes--FOOTBALL--Navy Seen Running More; SOPHOMORES AID RESERVES Maryland Has Two Veteran Teams Ready For Action ), ''The Baltimore Sun'', September 15, 1958.〕 but also noted the difficulty of the schedule, which included six teams ranked in the Associated Press preseason poll.〔(6 TERP FOES RATED HIGH; AP Poll Has Maryland Opponents Among Top 20 ), ''The Baltimore Sun'', September 16, 1958.〕 Mont rated Clemson and Auburn as the toughest opponents on the schedule.〔(Tiger Elevens Will Be Tough Maryland Foes ), ''Herald-Journal'', September 9, 1958.〕
